What is different about coverage in Indiana
Indiana's Medicaid expansion population is covered under its own branded program, the Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP), administered by the Family and Social Services Administration, while Indiana residents use the federal HealthCare.gov Marketplace for ACA shopping. Indiana Medical Coverage is free to use for Indiana callers working through Medicare, ACA, life, or supplemental coverage questions.
- Indiana Medicaid, including the Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP), Hoosier Care Connect, and Hoosier Healthwise, is administered by the Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) -- FSSA's Division of Family Resources is the right place to start if your Indiana Medicaid eligibility changed.
- Indiana does not run its own ACA exchange, so Indiana marketplace shopping and subsidy questions go through the federal HealthCare.gov Marketplace.
- Free Medicare counseling is available in Indiana through the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) at 1-800-452-4800, separate from Indiana Medical Coverage's own free phone help.
Worth knowing: Indiana's Medicaid expansion population is covered under its own distinct name, the Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP), which -- unlike standard Medicaid in most states -- has historically included features like required monthly contributions (POWER accounts), so HIP eligibility and standard Medicaid eligibility aren't always the same conversation.

Where do I shop for ACA health plans in Indiana?
Indiana residents shop through HealthCare.gov (federal Marketplace) (https://www.healthcare.gov/indiana/). An independent agent such as Lander LLC can explain the plans for you, but the marketplace is the only place premium tax credits are applied.
How do I apply for Medicaid in Indiana?
Medicaid in Indiana is run through Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) (https://www.in.gov/medicaid/). Eligibility depends on income, household size and other factors, and it is decided by the state, not by an insurance agency.
Who regulates insurance in Indiana?
Indiana Department of Insurance (IDOI) (https://www.in.gov/idoi/consumer-services/) regulates insurance companies and agents in Indiana. You can use it to check that an agent or company is licensed and to file a complaint.
Is there free, unbiased Medicare help in Indiana?
Yes. Indiana SHIP (State Health Insurance Assistance Program) (1-800-452-4800) offers free Medicare counseling through the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP), separate from any insurance agency.
Does Indiana Medical Coverage cost anything to use?
There is no cost to call or to speak with an agent. Insurance premiums and plan costs are set by the insurance companies and are separate from our help.
